THE LIBRARY OF CONGRESS HOSTS CHARLES R. MCCLURE DIGITAL REFERENCE PRESENTATION The Library of Congress Collaborative Digital Reference Service Group is proud to host a presentation by the well-known information studies expert, Professor Charles R. McClure. Please join us for the timely topic "Assessing Digital Reference Services" at the Coolidge Auditorium, Library of Congress Jefferson Building, on Friday, February the 8th from 9:30 am to 11:00 am. The Jefferson Building is within easy walking distance from the Capitol South Metro. Please allow time for security checks. Dr. Charles R. McClure is Florida State University's first Francis Eppes Professor of Information Studies, and Director of FSU's Information Use Management and Policy Institute. His Ph.D. from Rutgers University is in Library and Information Services. Professor McClure has held a number of elective and committee positions in the American Society for Information Science, the American Library Association, the Information Industry Association, and the Association for Library and Information Science Educators. Professor McClure has been at Florida State University School of Information Studies since 1999. Prior to that he was Distinguished Professor at the Syracuse University School of Information Studies. As principal investigator for studies on the management of government information and information policy, Dr. McClure has worked with agencies such as the U.S. Congress Office of Technology Assessment, the Government Printing Office, the National Technical Information Service, the Bureau of the Census, U.S. Dept. of Education, and the National Science Foundation. He is the recipient of numerous awards including the American Library Association's Jesse H. Shera award for his study of Electronic Networks, the Research Process, and Scholarly Communication--the third time he won that award for the best research study in library and information science. He has authored and edited some 35 monographs, as well as some 250 reports, chapters, and papers. As president of Information Management Consultant Services, Inc., Dr. McClure consults with a number of academic, public, and special libraries; government agencies; professional associations; networks and electronic service providers; and corporations regarding the design, planing, implementation, management, and evaluation of information services. He is also a frequent speaker at professional meetings and conferences. Most recently Professor McClure has been working on E-Metrics--the measures for electronic resources, as well as on assessing the quality of digital reference services. The Library of Congress is one of the test sites for Dr. McClure's work on evaluating digital reference.
