Regarding the proposed language code for Ingush, I thought our principles were to base the code on the vernacular name or to accept the code requested. Have we changed our principles? I note that several proposals have suggested that we use the same code as Ethnologue. That seems appropriate if no code has been suggested or if the suggested code is not available.

ISO 639 encoding: cau = Caucasian (other)

Linguasphere: 42-BAA-aa = Ghalghaay. Ingush is given as a "Russian" name.

Ethnologue: INH = Ingush. Some 230.000 speakers in Chechen Ingushetia.
"Ghalghay" is given as an indigenous name.

Both the proposed identifier (ing) and the Ethnologue identifier (inh) are
available. Because of the ongoing coordination with Ethnologue I would
suggest that we select "inh".

I should think that Ingush should be the only English name listed.
