I am not so sure Karachay and Balkar should be unified. There are two
different alphabets at http://www.evertype.com/alphabets/karachay.pdf
with the indigenous name "qarachaj" and
http://www.evertype.com/alphabets/balkar.pdf with the indigenous name
"balqar".
