The value "class" is used where the component is defined as part of a classification scheme used in some archival traditions rather that or in addition to the hierarchy of fond, series, etc.   It was added to the list of values for the level attribute in EAD 2002 in response to requests from European archivists.  I cannot personally explain it in greater detail as it is not common practice in the United States.

Subject: value "class"

I have just started using the EAD, so probably my question will be easy to answer.
Inside the <archdesc> and in <c> we can declare the attribute level. In which cases do we have to use the value "class" for the attribute level?
Thank you
