This notice is being forwarded at the request of Judy Kuhagen, Policy Specialist in CPSO. She is a subscriber to the PCClist, but often asks us to forward messages of common interest to our PCC community. Carolyn Sturtevant, NACO Coordinator

Several times in recent years CPSO has distributed information (in Cataloging Service Bulletin, etc.) about the following situations:

need for separate series authority records for series titles published concurrently by St. Martin's Press and Macmillan;

need for new series authority records for the merged St. Martin's/Macmillan series published by Palgrave;

need for new series authority records for the successor to the Palgrave series published by new group Palgrave Macmillan.

CPSO has received reports of a few LC catalogers condensing these separate SARs for each series under one SAR for all the series. I haven't received any reports recently of PCC catalogers doing the same thing (thank you !!).

So, this message has a reminder and a request.

Reminder: DO NOT delete such SARs!

Request: Please notify CPSO if you find evidence of such deletions in the authority file.

I am now reconstructing cancelled SARs and identifying/correcting analytic records incorrectly updated.

Thanks, Judy Kuhagen (CPSO)
