FLICC Orientations to Federal Libraries and Information Centers Series

Society of the Cincinnati--Tuesday, June 8, 2004--1:00 pm to 4:00 pm

Register NOW!

As part of a continuing series of orientations to libraries and
information centers, FLICC is offering an opportunity for federal
librarians to become acquainted with the Anderson House, the
headquarters, library and museum of the Society of the Cincinnati.

The Society of the Cincinnati was founded by the officers of the
Continental army and navy and their French counterparts at the close of
the Revolutionary War. The Society's mission, which has been
perpetuated by descendants of the original officers, is to promote
knowledge of and appreciation for the achievements of the American
Revolution.

The Society's library houses a 45,000-volume collection, including
rare books, manuscripts, maps, graphic arts and modern reference
sources, focused on the people and events of the American Revolutionary
period, the art of war in the eighteenth century, and the history of the
Society of the Cincinnati.

The Society headquarters, the Anderson House, was originally the home
of Larz Anderson, a career diplomat and devoted member of the Virginia
branch of the Society. Completed in 1905, it is one of the most splendid
examples of a Beaux Arts house in the Washington area. The program will
include:

* Welcome and overview of the Society of the Cincinnati
