FLICC Orientations to Federal Libraries and Information Centers Series Society of the Cincinnati--Tuesday, June 8, 2004--1:00 pm to 4:00 pm Register NOW! As part of a continuing series of orientations to libraries and information centers, FLICC is offering an opportunity for federal librarians to become acquainted with the Anderson House, the headquarters, library and museum of the Society of the Cincinnati. The Society of the Cincinnati was founded by the officers of the Continental army and navy and their French counterparts at the close of the Revolutionary War. The Society's mission, which has been perpetuated by descendants of the original officers, is to promote knowledge of and appreciation for the achievements of the American Revolution. The Society's library houses a 45,000-volume collection, including rare books, manuscripts, maps, graphic arts and modern reference sources, focused on the people and events of the American Revolutionary period, the art of war in the eighteenth century, and the history of the Society of the Cincinnati. The Society headquarters, the Anderson House, was originally the home of Larz Anderson, a career diplomat and devoted member of the Virginia branch of the Society. Completed in 1905, it is one of the most splendid examples of a Beaux Arts house in the Washington area.
