As part of the integration of FirstSearch and Interlibrary Loan, OCLC will be removing the selective user status restrictions. Currently, selective users participate in OCLC interlibrary loan but do not contribute holdings to OCLC WorldCat. Selective users do not see full MARC records, they see only those holdings in their group (GAC) and may send and receive requests only from other members of their group. Selective user restrictions will not be developed for the new FirstSearch staff view platform. In order to better support patron self-service and unmediated ILL requests, selective user restrictions are being removed. This will not only result in full MARC record display but will also allow a library's patron to request items that the library cannot fill within their group. If you are unsure of the status of your library, search Participating Institutions on the OCLC home page at http://www.oclc.org/contacts/libraries/default.htm . FEDLINK plans to request the restriction removal for all FEDLINK's selective users as a group and place a request with OCLC in October. If your library is a selective user, or you oversee groups of selective users, and there are any issues or problems that you foresee regarding the selective user status removal, please notify FEDLINK by cob September 24, 2004.
