Antony,

When you say "the next update package for the Subject Cataloging Manual: Subject Headings, which will be distributed in about six weeks, will include revisions to the appropriate instruction sheets that reflect this change in policy," does this mean that at that time the changes will be available on Cataloger's Desktop as well as in hard copy?

Subject: [PCCLIST] Subdivisions to be Cancelled

In 2002 CPSO requested catalogers' comments on a proposal to
discontinue the subdivisions --Contributions in [specific field or
topic] and --Views on [specific topic] under individual persons. After
reviewing the comments that were received, CPSO has decided to proceed
with this proposal. Weekly list 04/36 contains proposals to eliminate
these free-floating subdivisions.

The subdivision --Contributions in [specific field or topic], used
under names of persons, is being completely eliminated. CPSO will
update LC's bibliographic database to remove this subdivision and will
ensure that appropriate additional subject headings are included in the
records to allow access to the concepts previously expressed in the
subdivision.

The subdivision --Views on [specific topic], also used under names of
persons, is being cancelled as a free-floating subdivision. The
subdivision will be used only where specifically established. Currently
the subdivision is established only under the headings Jesus Christ and
Lincoln, Abraham, 1809-1865. CPSO anticipates that there will be
relatively few cases where this subdivision will be needed. The
subdivision --Political and social views will continue to be valid as a
free-floating subdivision. CPSO will also update LC's database to
reflect this change in practice.

The next update package for the Subject Cataloging Manual: Subject
Headings, which will be distributed in about six weeks, will include
revisions to the appropriate instruction sheets that reflect this change
in policy.
