I haven't done any serious profiling, but my expectation is that I'll find
something pretty similar to Adam -- the amount of work to parse the SOAP
XML outweighs anything else, assuming that the search isn't expensive
(title > a) and the records don't need to be transformed before returning
them (MarcXML -> MODS).

Scan, for example, is very very easy for me to process (as Berkeley DB
keeps the terms in order, so I just cursor through them)
