March 14-18,
2005
NOTE: Please do not forward
this invitation to other institutions or to online lists without consulting the
NACO training coordinators on the LC Coop Team: Patricia R.Van Ryn ([log in to unmask]) or David Saah ([log in to unmask]). Thank you for your
cooperation.
The Cooperative Cataloging Team is offering a five-day
NACO training course at the Library of Congress, March 14-18, 2005. The training
course will be of greatest interest to new or current NACO libraries who have a
small number of catalogers in need of training, and who do not anticipate having
a NACO trainer visit their institution to work with a larger group. Each institution will be responsible for
its participants’ travel and accommodation costs. However, there is no fee for the class
itself.
Participants will be asked to download and print training
manuals to bring with them. At this
time materials will include OCLC record displays. RLIN training materials will be
available when NACO functionality is implemented in
RLIN21.
To Register for the NACO Training
Course:
New libraries must submit an application to join the
Program for Cooperative Cataloging
(PCC) before they may receive NACO training. Current NACO partners are asked to
submit an application to update their institution’s information with the
following: the names of the
director, the technical services administrator, the NACO contact, and the backup
person for the NACO contact. Under
new agreements in the PCC, NACO institutions are required to commit to
contribution goals and to name a backup for the NACO contact to promote program
continuity in the event of staff changes. The online application form appears
at:
http://www.loc.gov/catdir/pcc/nacoappl.html.
Before submitting a PCC application, new institutions are
encouraged to contact one of the NACO training coordinators to discuss any
questions (see below for the contact information). When your institution’s
participants are approved to participate in the training class, please send in
pertinent background information on each participant.
Expressions of interest in the training class and all
requests for more information should be directed to the NACO training coordinators by
February 9, 2005. The deadline for submitting applications is also on February
9.
The NACO training coordinators will confirm participation
in the training course by February 9, 2005, so that participants have the
necessary lead time to make their hotel and travel arrangements to Washington,
DC. (Please do not make travel and
hotel arrangements before receiving confirmation). Participants may make their own hotel
arrangements or reserve rooms at Capitol Hill Suites, which is offering a
discounted rate ($169 single room rate; $189 double) through February 11,
2005. To make a reservation,
register on the online meeting reservation
page:
or call the
hotel at 202-543-6000.
