THE POSITION

This position manages the Talking Books Library, a subregional library of the Library of
Congress/ National Library Service serving 1,300 persons with print disabilities.  The library
operates 40 hours   per week, Monday through Friday.  In addition, this position manages a
national recognized, assistive technology program that loans devices for individuals to use in
their homes.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES

This person supervises the work of 3 staff members, provides reader's advisory and reference
assistance, works with community partners, manages the library's automation system (KLAS),
develops the collection, makes presentations to community groups, and manages a large
loan collection of assistive technology.

TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS

Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to: Master's degree in
library science from a graduate library school program accredited by the American Library
Association and one to two years experience in a library or related field.  Possession of a valid
Florida Class "E" driver's license is preferred.  An acceptable driving record is required.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION

Must have the ability to communicate effectively and relate well with a diverse population
including older adults and persons with disabilities.  Prefer strong computer and community
outreach skills, supervisory experience, strong organizational skills, and basic knowledge of
assistive technology.  Requires the ability to lift and carry objects weighing 5-10 pounds and
to sit or stand for long periods  of time.  Prefer two years related library experience.  The
ability to pass a criminal background check   is required.  The County may require employees
to make either a temporary or long-term, permanent transfer to another library location to
accommodate the organization's business needs.

WORK HOURS/DAYS:  Hours and days will vary, to include occasional evenings and
weekends.
