I'd like to echo Chris Prom's report of user confusion. We tried this with our paper finding aids about 20 years ago and users didn't like it. Another problem was that if your folder titles were short, there was a lot of white space between the folder name and the box or folder number over at the right--it was hard to line things up without holding a ruler or something beneath the listing.
