FEDLINK does not usually schedule OCLC workshops in our Library of Congress training room for the first quarter of the fiscal year, due to low demand.  FEDLINK's calendar of OCLC workshops will be published soon, for classes beginning in January.

However, students in the DC metro area can take workshops at CAPCON.  Multiple payment methods are available, for example you may pay CAPCON by credit card or set up a transfer pay CAPCON account at FEDLINK (Vendor I.D. "CN").

CAPCON has three OCLC workshops available in November, described below.  Watch their home page for additional opportunities.

1) Searching OCLC WorldCat

Learn how to effectively search WorldCat through Connexion.

This workshop introduces new users to searching WorldCat. Students will learn numeric, keyword, and scan title searching strategies and how to navigate search results. Participants will also learn about what counts as a search, how to select the most effective search, and to use qualifiers to narrow search results.

2) OCLC FirstSearch Basics

Learn to construct efficient and effective searches using FirstSearch.

This half-day course will introduce students to basic, advanced, and expert search techniques.  Students will also be introduced to the FirstSearch interface, customization options, using direct request, and My Account options.

3)  Introduction to OCLC Connexion(tm) Client Interface

Learn how to customize OCLC Connexion Client to your workflow.

This course will introduce users to the OCLC Connexion client interface.  Students will work through the basic cataloging workflow.  The course will provide training on searching WorldCat, navigating search results, working with bibliographic records, and exporting and printing labels.
