Hello Thomas, Three titles come to mind: 1. "The Chronological Lionel Hampton and His Orchestra 1942-1944," Classics 803, released 1996 2. "The Chronological Lionel Hampton and His Orchestra 1945-1946," Classics 922, released 1997 Two volumes in Classics' "Chronological" releases, which include, respectively, Million Dollar Smile and Blowtop Blues, her surprisingly few vocals from Decca studio recordings by Hampton's band. Unfortunately, when Classics temporarily ceased operation recently, they allowed past CD issues like these to go out of print. As a result, they are now somewhat hard-to-find. 3. "Dinah Washington with the Lionel Hampton Orchestra: A Slick Chick On the Mellow Side," Collectors' Choice Music CCM 1049-2, released 2003 These are excerpts of various mid-1940s Armed Forces Radio Service (AFRS) broadcasts by Hampton and his band, featuring Washington's vocals. The selections are A Slip of the Lip (Can Sink a Ship), I'll Get By, Tears in My Heart, When They Ask About You, That Soldier of Mine, No Love, No Nothin', There'll Be a Jubilee, Slick Chick (On the Mellow Side), Is You Is Or Is You Ain't My Baby?, Million Dollar Smile, The Man I Love, and I'm Just the Worrying Kind. I hope that the above information is of interest. - Christopher Popa Big Band Library bigbandlibrary.com ________________________________ From: Association for Recorded Sound Discussion List on behalf of Thomas Stern Sent: Mon 2/27/2006 10:53 AM To: [log in to unmask] Subject: [ARSCLIST] Dinah Washington - pre-Mercury Has anyone issued a complete/chronological cd of Dinah Washington's pre-Mercury Recordings? This would include the gospel material (under her real name), AFRS, airchecks, Keynote and Decca. Thanks! Thomas.
