Dear JAC members,
=20
We have received a request to register an alpha-3 identifier (ISO 639-2) =
for Norfolk.
=20
Please see the original request below. There is quite a bit of =
information found on the Norfolk government official web site =
(http://www.norfolk.gov.nf/).=20
=20
Ethnologue mentions Norfolk but briefly under the entry "English" as a =
dialect.
=20
Linguasphere has "Norfolk" as 52-ABA-bco (probably to be interpreted as =
the variant of standard English spoken on Norfolk), and =
"norfolk-island-creole" as 52-ABB-ddb (together with =
"pitcairn-island-creaole" under 52-ABB-dd "pitcairnese", both under =
52-ABB-d "Pacific Creoles").
=20
The proposed alpha-3 identifier ("nfk") is already taken (in ISO 639-3). =
I would suggest the identifier "nrf" as an alternative.
=20
Discussion please (until 2006-01-06).
