Network Bulletin No. 06-12 Date: March 24, 2006 Subject: Staff, NLS Index Term: Jane Caulton appointed head of the Publications and Media Section Jane Caulton, a longtime NLS staff member, has been appointed head of the Publications and Media Section (PMS). She will be responsible for planning and implementing NLS's publishing and public awareness programs. Caulton has served in many roles both at NLS and at the Library of Congress (LC). Ms. Caulton began her career with PMS as a writer-editor in 1989. She coordinated the national exhibit campaign, and later, other major NLS public outreach projects, including the Take a Talking Book multimedia outreach campaign and the Rita Moreno talking- book public service announcement series. She has served as editor of the bimonthly patron magazine Braille Book Review and of the quarterly volunteer newsletter Update. In 2003, she was promoted to senior writer-editor, responsible for the section's work flow. A year later, she was promoted to assistant head of the Publications and Media Section, where she oversaw the publishing operation and assisted with implementing public outreach goals. In 2000, Jane Caulton was commended by the Librarian of Congress for her work from January 1999 to July 2000 as project coordinator of the LC bicentennial preservation and security symposium, "To Preserve and Protect: Strategic Stewardship and Cultural Resources," a national conference for directors of libraries, archives, and museums. Almost concurrently, she was selected as a future leader of the Library in October 1999, completing its Leadership Development Program in October 2000. During her year in the program, she served in the LC Congressional Relations Office helping to develop research materials, write reports, and facilitate communication between the Library and the U.S. Congress, among other assignments. She holds a BS in political science from Central State University, Wilberforce, Ohio, and is currently enrolled at the graduate level in the Johns Hopkins University Leadership Development Program. Ms. Caulton has received frequent recognition for service and achievement, including LC awards for Meritorious Service and Special Achievement, the Prince George's County (Maryland) Commission for Women Certificate of Appreciation for Volunteer Service, and the North American Precis Certificate of Excellence for Achievement in Media Relations. Jane Caulton is committed to the goals of maintaining the high standards of the Publications and Media Section and increasing public awareness of the talking-book program.
