Shipping C-1 cassette machines for repair or storage

Regional libraries and machine-lending agencies preparing C-1s for shipment for repair or
storage should adopt the following methods to identify machines. Libraries should use
overpack boxes (SH107) to ship machines in quantity to protect the machine boxes and to
make the machines easier to store.

Red cards (SH130) should be used for machines in need of repair. Green cards (SH131)
should be used for machines that have been repaired and are in good working order.

__To ship cassette machines in overpack boxes:__

  1. Write the model and serial number of each cassette machine to be shipped on a color-
coded 3" x 5" card. Use a red card if the machine needs repair and a green card if the
  machine has been repaired.

  2. Use an overpack box (SH107) if you have at least four cassette machine boxes with the
same color code. __Do not mix red and green coded machines in the same overpack
  box.__

  3. Place two plastic window envelopes (SH018) on the overpack box in the area designated
as the mailing area. In one window envelope, place a label with the shipping address on one
side and the library's return mailing address on the other side. In the other window envelope,
place the red or green cards with the cassette machine model and serial numbers.

  4. Place a piece of cellophane tape across the mouth of each plastic window envelope to
ensure that the cards do not fall out.

__Instructions for shipping individual machine boxes__

  1. Write the model and serial number of the cassette machine on a red or green card. Use a
red card if the machine needs repair and a green card if the machine has been repaired.

  2. Place two plastic window envelopes (SH018) on the cassette machine box. In one
window envelope, place a label with the shipping address on one side and the library's return
mailing address on the other side. This envelope goes on the top of the box. In the other
window envelope, place the red or green cards with the cassette machine model and serial
numbers. This envelope goes on the side of the box that is labeled for the model and serial
  number.

  3. Place a piece of cellophane tape across the mouth of each plastic window envelope to
ensure that the cards do not fall out.
