Metadata Librarian

The University of Colorado at Boulder Libraries invites applications from motivated and innovative librarians to provide expertise in metadata provision and other cataloging activities. As the largest research library in the Rocky Mountain region, the University Libraries is committed to providing access to all types of materials in conformance with national standards and to advancing the field through active service, inquiry, and participation in cooperative programs.

Reporting to the Head of Digital Resources Cataloging, the Metadata Librarian is responsible for cataloging digital resources using the appropriate metadata schema to support the University of Colorado at Boulder Libraries' growing digital collections. Metadata is provided within the digital library (using Luna Insight R) and/or within OCLC for inclusion in the local Innovative Interfaces system and in the regional online catalog, Prospector. As an original cataloger in the Cataloging & Metadata Services Department, the Metadata Librarian participates in PCC (NACO, SACO and

BIBCO) and OCLC Enhance, and in the Department Management Group.  In furtherance of the Libraries' mission and departmental goals, the Metadata Librarian may teach others in metadata provision. The Metadata Librarian is a member of the tenure-stream Libraries faculty. Significant parts of the responsibilities of this position are scholarly activity and creative work and service in keeping with the tenure standards of the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Requirements:
Master's degree from an ALA-accredited library school prior to the date of appointment with coursework in cataloging and metadata; knowledge of MARC bibliographic and authorities formats; familiarity with XML; bibliographic knowledge of at least one non-English language; effective oral and written communication skills; potential for scholarly activity and creative work and service. 

Desirable qualifications:
Evidence of any of the following will enhance a candidacy: experience with non-MARC metadata schema, standards, best practices, and their application (e.g., DACS, VRA, Dublin Core, EAD, geospatial metadata, METS, MODS, OAI); experience with a national cooperative cataloging program such as PCC (NACO, BIBCO, or SACO) and OCLC Enhance; experience with at least one programming language; experience in an academic library; experience working in a collaborative environment; demonstrated initiative investigating new ideas and implementing change; evidence of scholarly activity and creative work and service.

       
Appointment and Salary:
The successful candidate will be appointed as a full-time (12 month) tenure-stream faculty member. Depending upon demonstrated accomplishments in scholarly activity, creative work, and service, appointment will be at the senior instructor, assistant professor, or associate professor level.

Starting salary range will be $40,000 to $45,000. Benefits include 22 working days of vacation, ten paid holidays, liberal sick leave, university group health care plans, group life insurance, TIAA/CREF retirement/annuity, and support for scholarly/professional activities. Tenured librarians are eligible for sabbatical leave.
