All:

The draft version of MIX 1.0 is now ready for review. The review period
will run from November 29 to December 20, 2006. Please send your comments
to the MIX listserv <[log in to unmask]>.

The draft schema is available at:
http://www.loc.gov/standards/mix/mix10/mix10.xsd

The Data Dictionary - Technical Metadata for Digital Still Images
(NISO) is available at:
http://www.loc.gov/standards/mix/docs/Z39_87_200x_2nd_ballot_May1_2006.pdf

A sample document is available at:
http://www.loc.gov/standards/mix/instances/test_mix10.xml
Note that the sample document is just intended to test the schema. It is
not a realistic MIX instance document.

I would especially appreciate feedback on the datatypes of the following
elements:

yCbCrSubSampling
Two subelements have been added (yCbCrSubsampleHoriz and
yCbCrSubsampleVert) as per the TIFF standard. Please advise if this is
correct.

yCbCrPositioning
The allowed values are set to 1 or 2 as per the TIFF Standard. Please
advise if this is correct.

yCbCrCoefficients
The datatype is currently set to string. Please advise regarding correct
datatype.

referenceBlackWhite
The datatype is currently set to string. Please advise regarding correct
datatype.

The following elements currently have the datatype string. However, the
NISO Data Dictinary states: "These values specify the 1931 CIE xy
chromaticities of the effective illumination (i.e., filter/light source
combination) at capture." The Data Dictionary specifies that the datatype
for these elements should be an enumerated list. Please advise regarding
values these lists should contain.

primaryChromaticitiesRedX

primaryChromaticitiesGreenX

primaryChromaticitiesBlueX

Other Notes:
1. NDD = NISO Data Dictionary. The NDD Table of Contents numbers are given
in the schema as the value of the documentation element like
this: <xsd:documentation>NDD id="8.4.4.2.7"</xsd:documentation>
2. All elements are optional except for the mix element which is
mandatory. Therefore MIX does not follow the NDD in this regard.
3. Element "repeatability" (maxOccurs="1" or
maxOccurs="unbounded") follows the NDD.
4. I have added an extension element. This is to provide the ability to
add local data elements that the NDD does not provide for.

Special thanks to Stephen Abrams of Harvard who provided an initial review
of the schema.

Thank you,
