As part of a series of orientations to libraries and information centers, FLICC is offering an opportunity for federal librarians to become acquainted with the programs and services of the Institute for Defense Analyses (IDA). Created during World War II to evaluate new weapons, IDAs formalized its role and mission in 1956 with the debut of its new name. IDA now administers two federally-funded research and development centers on behalf of the Secretary of Defense, as well as the Science & Technology Policy Institute on behalf of the White House and the presidents science advisor. IDAs library, which opened in 1960, is a joint facility serving both institutes. The orientation will feature:
How the library helps the IDAs analysts produce reports A tour of the library, with a stop in the IDAs document reference center.
IDAs library conversion to virtual service.
