I teach in distance mode, so many of my students are able to borrow a copy of a fairly recent update from their friendly local cataloguing department. However, we have now also arranged for them to have access to Cataloger's Desktop via our own library and its OPAC, which is proving popular. 
 
RDA does need to be covered, I think, though given its ever-evolving nature, I discuss it primarily in the context of the shortcomings of AACR, rather than ask students to examine any of its draft contents in detail.
 
By the way, for those who teach face to face (something I used to do on an almost daily basis), does anyone share my concern about the new rule numbering system in RDA (one of the few things that it is now confirmed)? Almost impossible to remember (no alphabets, only numbers) and hard to cite in a classroom without your novice students having their impressions confirmed that cataloguing is far too convoluted (let's look at rule 3.2.3.2.3a etc.).

I require that students have access to AACR2r--they don't have to buy it,
just be able to use it.  I require my students to do original cataloging on
MARC workforms as a term long project.   They really do need to have AACR2
to complete the descriptive portion of the assignment. 

I just touch on RDA and FRBR as something that is coming.  Students have too
much to learn to deal with the way we are doing things today to try to
incorporate how we might do things in the future.  It will be several years
before RDA will be implemented so I just take things a step at a time and
hope I don't completely overwhelm those just entering the profession.  If

I've not taught beginning cataloging and classification for almost a year,
and I'm slated to teach again this summer. I wonder if instructors are
still requiring students to purchase AACR2. Also, how are RDA and other
developments being incorporated into introductory courses? In the past,
I've only touched briefly on RDA...
