SLA - "Federal Access to Government-Sponsored Research"

How is the Open Access movement affecting federal publications and
libraries? 
And how are legislative efforts attempting to broaden access to
federally-funded research results? This panel discussion will:

.	explore the comparative advantage of the federal government in
regards to the Open Access movement 
.	discuss the potential impact on access to government information 
.	provide practical tips on how to create an organizational database
of published knowledge

James King, Chief Librarian, Naval Research Laboratory will moderate the
session and share his views on the 'comparative advantage' that the Federal
Government has in this debate. King has been serving as Chief Librarian of
the Ruth H. Hooker Research Library at the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL)
in Washington, D.C. since 2002.

Maria Pisa, Associate Director for Public Services, National Agriculture
Library
(USDA)  will discuss efforts to capture and distribute all articles written
by USDA government researchers.  

Mary Van Allen, Senior Contract Researcher, Research Services Group, Thomson
Scientific, will provide examples and ideas on promoting the value of an
organization's published research with citation analysis.
