Serves as a librarian and performs the full range of tasks relative to providing general and technical scientific and medical open-source support to Armed Forces Medical Intelligence Center (AFMIC) analysts in Frederick, Maryland. Receives, evaluates and assesses intelligence and academic open-source requirements of customers. Through direct contact with analysts and researchers, determines what resources will satisfy their research requirements and time frames and provides open- source information and materials as required. Aids senior librarian in developing and presenting briefs, tutorials, and instructional material in the use of the library's collection and resources. Contributes to senior librarian's efforts of analyzing, cataloging, indexing, and abstracting monographs, serials, documents, electronic resources, and other open-source non-print media. Enters original or copy cataloged MARC21 encoded material into Integrated Library System (ILS) for all aforementioned materials. Assists senior librarian in developing and maintaining web presence for the library by recommending new open-source information sources and expanding the online journal holdings. Participates in developing novel information practices through which open- source information can be expedited to the analyst or customer. Orients less experienced staff members in performing reference and bibliographic searching, referral, and cataloging services, and in retrieval of material from open-source databases. Conducts open-source reference collection development in a given geographic or subject area by utilizing domestic and foreign catalogs, bibliographies, and other material collections. Coordinates with analysts on open-source analytical and academic research needs and identifies, selects, and orders materials to satisfy such requirements. Attends and participates in conferences, seminars, and workshops to increase effectiveness in performance of diverse technical tasks, keeps abreast of advances in the Information and Library Science fields and current world developments as applicable to assigned areas of responsibility. Performs other duties as assigned.
