Hi,
METS 1.7 is available at http://www.loc.gov/standards/mets/version17/mets.v1-7.xsd
It will replace http://www.loc.gov/standards/mets/mets.xsd
in a month if no problems are found.
Change requests for the next version of METS are being
collected here
http://www.socialtext.net/mim-2006/index.cgi?mets_1_8_change_requests
METS 1.7 changes:
Imports xlink from http://www.loc.gov/standards/xlink/xlink.xsd
rather than http://www.loc.gov/standards/mets/xlink.xsd
to harmonize with MODS and EAD.
Created parType complex type to allow a seq to contain a par.
http://www.socialtext.net/mim-2006/index.cgi?cr_1_7_seq_par_and_area_in_structmap
Created a FILECORE attribute group with MIMETYPE, SIZE,
CHECKSUM, CHECKSUMTYPE, CREATED; added to mdType and mdRef so they get the core
file attributes
http://www.socialtext.net/mim-2006/index.cgi?cr_1_7_add_checksum_support_for_metadata
Added PREMIS:OBJECT PREMIS:AGENT PREMIS:RIGHTS PREMIS:EVENT to
MDTYPE value enumeration
http://www.socialtext.net/mim-2006/index.cgi?cr_1_7_add_mdtype_values_for_specific_premis_schemas
I have checked the new schema against all the example METS
in the registered METS profiles and all the samples validate using the 1.7
schema.
