Project Manager Rhode Island Archival and Manuscripts Collections Online The Brown University Library invites applications for a Rhode Island Encoded Archival Description Consortium Project Manager, a 2-year, National Endowment for the Humanities grant-funded position. The Project Manager will assist in the development and implementation of an EAD finding aid project involving ten Rhode Island repositories. This position will coordinate the creation and submission of over 300 archival finding aids to the union database and provide additional EAD training and support (including on-site visits as needed) to participating institutions. The Project Manager will assist in the formulation, dissemination, implementation, administration, and revision of related policies and procedures as required. The Project Manager will publicize the activities and goals of the project, including presentations at national and regional professional meetings, press releases via professional listservs and websites, creation of promotional materials, and reports. Brown University Library is the lead institution on the Rhode Island EAD project. The Project Manager reports to the Project Director for the grant. The position will be based at Brown University, but will require frequent travel around the state of Rhode Island to participating repositories for site visits and project meetings. Grant period: May 2008 April 2010 Required Qualifications Masters degree in library/information science, history, or history-related field with training in special collections or archival administration. Experience using EAD and related encoding technologies. Understanding of arrangement and description of archival and manuscript collections. Awareness of national trends in archival description. Knowledge of DACS. Working knowledge of XML and XSLT. Demonstrated high level of written and oral communication skills and the ability to communicate clearly in presentations. Ability to interact effectively with many different constituencies. Capacity to organize multiple projects simultaneously and work successfully in a deadline-oriented environment. Valid drivers license Preferred Qualifications Two years experience arranging and describing archival records. Strong knowledge of and experience with digital archive initiatives, particularly in the development of policies and procedures. Ability to create stylesheets using XSLT. Working knowledge of AACR2, AAT, DCRM, and LCSH. Strong computer application skills (e.g. Microsoft Office programs). Understanding of grant writing procedures and management of grant-funded projects.
