Fundamentals of LC Classification, perfect for both PCC and non-PCC participants, will give you exposure to the principles and practices of Library of Congress Classification (LCC). Ideal for those new to LC Classification—or those who have a basic working knowledge of cataloging and MARC formats, participants will gain a thorough understanding of the following:

  • Background on the development and structure of LCC
  • Components of call numbers
  • Guidance in the use of essential tools for LCC
  • Application of LCC in areas most often used by generalists
  • Local classification decisions
  • And proposing class numbers through the PCC SACO program.

While not designed to cover advanced or specialized topics, this course is a useful "refresher" for experienced catalogers, especially those who manage other catalogers.
