Is anyone here familiar, or have had experience with, the Lukas Foss recording of his own "Geod" with the Buffalo Philharmonic on Vox Candide CE 31042? It is a 36-minute orchestral work that is amorphous in form, so it's very difficult to pin down its trajectory by ear; it spreads over both sides of the Vox LP. However, it appears as though the sides are switched -- "side 2" ends with a fade, whereas "side 1" does not. The label copy on Side 2 is a mess, with a hand-written "2" and the timing scratched out with nothing to replace it, and the matrix number likewise corrected by hand. The wax numbering shows similar kinds of cross-outs. Any help would be appreciated. These booklets are frequently very rich sources of information, and have their intrinsic interest. Catalogs from specialized record companies are also of great interest (Classical, Folk, Jazz, Documentary, Spoken word, etc.). Is there any person or organizations with a website where these could be made available permanently? Whenever possible, I have provided scans of this type of material. I hope others in this community are willing to do the same. This could be a resource of immense importance to scholars and collectors. Would be a great service if LoC, Smithsonian, or University would commit to this. Comments / Suggestions ????? Best wishes, Thomas. -----Original Message----- From: Association for Recorded Sound Discussion List [mailto:[log in to unmask]]On Behalf Of Tom Fine Sent: Tuesday, March 17, 2009 8:22 AM To: [log in to unmask] Subject: [ARSCLIST] Everest Records catalog circa 1960 Does anyone have in their "half-vast archives" a copy of the Everest Records catalog from 1960 timeframe (1959 would be fine, too)? If so, may I trouble you for a photocopy or a scan or a loan to scan it? Feel free to ping me off-list and thanks in advance if you can help. -- Tom Fine
