Taught online by Bill Walker, Imaging Field Services
Officer, Amigos Library Services.
When: September 30 – October 1, 2009, 10:30 AM - 12:30
PM Central Daylight Time
Registration deadline: September 23, 2009, 5:00 PM, CDT
Workshop description:
The Metadata Encoding Transmission Standard (METS) is an XML
schema that binds complex digital objects and their descriptive and
administrative metadata together. Objects and metadata can reside within the
METS object, either as XML or Base64 encoding, or, the METS object can link to
the digital objects and their metadata. This workshop introduces the METS
standard; discusses the role of METS profiles in defining specific applications
of METS; and outlines the sections of a METS object, presenting alternative
methods for storing or linking to digital objects and their metadata. For
homework, students will build a METS object using supplied image files and XML
metadata records.
