No...for acoustic recordings, there IS an "eq curve"...defined by the 
response
of the recording system and the recording horn's defined response!

Victor, just prior to their use of electric recording, experimented with an
"Orthophonic" system using an acousticaaly-defined sound curve for their
recording horns!
