Hello Curtis, There are a wide range of options at an equally wide range of price points (list price) from under $500 to over $10,000: Esoteric/Rek-O-Cut Sound Re-Equalizer (under $500): http://www.esotericsound.com/elect.htm NOTE: You will need an RIAA phono preamp to use with the Re-Equalizer. If you already have a good RIAA phono preamp, this might be a "good enough" and cost-effective option. TDL 4010 (over $500) http://www.tdl-tech.com/data4010.htm NOTE: Bass and treble EQ can be operated independently; has a mono mixer. KAB Souvenir EQS Mk12 (over $1000) http://www.kabusa.com/eqsmk12.htm NOTE: You cannot operate the bass and treble EQ independently; has a mono mixer Vadlyd (formerly Elberg) MD12 (over $1000) http://www.vadlyd.dk/English/RIAA_and_78_RPM_preamp.html NOTE: You cannot operate the bass and treble EQ independently; has a L or R wall selector, but no mono mixer Millennia Media LPE-2 or LOC (under or over $10,000) http://www.mil-media.com/LOC.html NOTE: We used the Millennia Media LPE-2 at The Audio Archive and are very familiar with this phono preamp. Lacks a mono mixer (the 1.5 dB steps are too coarse). Was our reference phono preamp until 2009. Wavestream Kinetics Archival Phono Stage (over $10,000) http://www.theaudioarchive.com/TAA_Products_Wavestream_Kinetics.htm NOTE: We replaced the Millennia Media LPE-2 with the Wavestream Kinetics Archival Phono Stage in 2009. The above phono preamps will support preservation and access projects. I omitted phono preamps like the Graham Slee Jazz Club: http://www.phonostagepreamp.com/jazzclub-phonostagepreamp.htm which would work very nicely for access projects, but doesn't have a FLAT low frequency option for preservation work. Some state lateral cut and are comprised of different materials. I am still conducting research and seeking advice on these various discs before any transfers take place; preservation and access is the ultimate goal. Most are in good shape. For those that are not, I will out source the work. I have looked around some, but would like suggestions for outsourcing. Currently I have one Stanton D5127 for Model 500 Broadcast Standard Series 3 to 7 grams. I also have a Stanton 500.V3. I will buy other cartridges as needed. The discs are recordings of Odis "Pop" Echols and the Melody Boys and the Stamps Quartet, about 50 discs. Unfortunately, I was told many were sold for scrap metal and others thrown out. I was able to rescue these recently before they were also tossed. I have 12 Norman Petty Trio Armed Forces Discs that are in great condition. I have the Gordon McClendon Collection that it is in great shape and consists of hundreds of various discs and tape formats. For example there are about 275 16 inch discs. I have an initial inventory that an assistant compiled. If anyone is interested, I can send it off line. I have some extra grant money to buy equipment, so having some playback options is also an objective. So, advice on cartridges and other needed materials is welcomed. I searched the ARSC archive and found some references for used preamps on eBay, but I will have to buy new. What are the best preamps on the market?
