Aside
from the many EAD consortia groups that most likely share the same database and
contribute other resources, and the SI Collections Search Center http://collections.si.edu/search/
which
indexes various dissimilar data sets around the Smithsonian, I don't know of
any active web sites.
There are undoubtedly sites in progress. Mark Matienzo
just turned me on to an interesting project in development at U.Va. called
Neatline. http://www.neatline.org/
Not quite the same, but definitely related. Another one that
I heard about recently is being developed at the National Library of Medicine
at NIH by John Rees. While similar to the SI Collections Search Center,
the site will harvest data from many different repositories and bring them
together.

Hi Barbara and Leslie --
Barbara, thank you for sharing the link for the
British "Connected
History" effort (another here:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/8577164.stm ).
And Leslie, it's heartening to read that someone
in the US is doing
something similar, though I read that yours will cover
140 collections
selected from 24 member libraries in the Philadelphia
area.
Does anyone know of others in the states who
are working on something
like this? It would be terrific if we could manage
a collaborative
project for the entire US. Perhaps regional area
search engines would
be the middle step.
