The most common "paper records" were/are those recorded by US servicemen at
USO's as they left for overseas duty. I have a couple of these; they both 
promote
different brands of razors. The contents (spoken "letters home") would only 
be
of interest to the families; however, the records are good examples of life 
in WWII!
Both of mine are still playable (or were the last I knew, anyway!).
