PREMIS Events at iPres 2010
The PREMIS Editorial Committee invites you to participate in
two events that will be held in conjunction with with the 7th
International Conference on Preservation of Digital Objects (iPres 2010) in
Vienna, Austria, September 19-24, 2010.
1. A PREMIS Tutorial will be held on Sunday September 19, 2010. This full-day educational event will provide an introduction and walk-through of the PREMIS Data Dictionary for Preservation Metadata. The tutorial will benefit individuals and institutions interested in implementing PREMIS metadata for the long-term management and preservation of their digital information but who have limited experience in implementation. Some basic knowledge of XML is presumed. Potential audience includes cultural heritage operators, researchers and technology developers, professional educators, and others involved in management and preservation of digital resources. Faculty include Rebecca Guenther (Library of Congress), Priscilla Caplan (Florida Center for Library Automation), Markus Enders (British Library), Angela Dappert (British Library) and Karin Bredenberg (National Archives of Sweden). The tutorial will follow the agenda of previous tutorials; see: http://www.loc.gov/standards/premis/tutorials.html. The fee will be 90EUR.
2. The second PREMIS Implementation Fair will be held on
September 22, 2010 in Vienna, Austria as an iPres workshop. It will build on the
successful first PREMIS Implementation Fair, which was held in San Francisco on
October 7, 2009 following iPres 2009. The event is intended for anyone
with some knowledge of PREMIS who is planning or already involved in a PREMIS
implementation. The goal of the fair is to promote discussion and share
experiences involving implementing PREMIS, as well as to consider changes
needed to the PREMIS Data Dictionary for Preservation Metadata, its XML schema
and related documentation. The event will include some case studies of PREMIS
implementations as well as presentations and open discussion about tools for
creating and transforming PREMIS metadata, data modeling issues, PREMIS
controlled vocabularies, a PREMIS RDF/OWL ontology, and PREMIS conformance.
The PREMIS Implementation Fair will be held from 12:00-18:00 on September 22, 2010 for a nominal fee of 10EUR. A full agenda will be made available in the near future.
