The latest Issues at a
Glance deals with the protests in Yemen.

The wave of popular protests
against government throughout North Africa and the Middle East has spread to
Yemen as well. Even before these popular protests, Yemen experienced huge
political and economic problems, exacerbated by an ongoing struggle against
al-Qaeda. Yemen is not a new front on the war against al-Qaeda, as the
threat has waxed and waned there since the early 1990s. But Yemen has
emerged in recent years as one of the most important theaters in that struggle
following the decision of Saudi al-Qaeda members to flee to Yemen to rebuild
their organization after suffering losses elsewhere in the region.
This page brings together a
collection of U.S. Government policy statements that capture recent U.S. policy
towards Yemen along with the latest analysis from think tanks. Additional
pages are available to examine protests throughout the Middle East, the situation in Libya, and Syria.
