Exhibit Specialist -- 3-6 month positions

Design, Creation, and Installation of Museum Exhibits
a.       Working with ISO staff and Museum Committee, identify exhibit themes/topics of potential interest/educational value that highlight NBS/NIST contributions to measurement science. Create new physical and digital exhibit(s), using artifacts or photos of artifacts in NIST Museum inventory.  
b.      Update to add new information to the NIST and the Nobel Museum Exhibit – includes gathering/researching information on NIST’s Nobel scientists’ research, working with various groups to obtain and accession the scientific instruments, writing descriptive narratives for the displays.
c.       Designing graphic layouts, artwork, and placement of artifacts within the display, writing descriptions of artifacts, their use, and historical significance.
Design and Creation of Digital Exhibits for the NIST Virtual Museum
a.       Designing layout and graphics for web-based exhibits on a specified theme or topic determined by the Information Services Office; design exhibit templates and navigation
b.      Creating production ready web-based exhibits that meet NIST IT security requirements and NIST Web Style guidelines
c.       Creating documentation that describes use of code, programming, stylesheets, architecture, and graphics specifications
At least 2 years experience the fabrication, finishing and maintenance of exhibits in a museum setting. Experience with constructing and designing complex exhibits, working from accurate scale drawings, blueprints or sketches. Experience with the planning of detailed work processes and actual restoration work on historic structures or valuable items.


Curation and Inventory of NIST Heritage Assets and Museum Artifacts  -- 3-6 month positions

Tasks may include:
a.       Conducting inventory of NIST heritage assets – includes determining which museum artifacts should be designated heritage assets, updating records in museum registrar’s database to reflect heritage asset designation; writes/updates documentation relating to heritage asset policy and practices for accessioning, appraising, preserving the museum artifacts
b.      Working with ISD staff, create “themed collections” relating to NIST’s accomplishments and role in measurement science that create/show connections between museum artifacts, NIST authored publications/papers, and archival materials (such as oral histories and photos). Write narratives describing the collections
c.       Accessioning and cataloging newly donated/acquired artifacts, entering information into Museum Registrar’s Database (MS Access database)


Library Aide  
Library Collection Maintenance and Circulation Activities -- 3-6 month positions

a.       Performing general library aid projects such as retrieving/shelving physical materials, collection shifting, opening & distributing mail, scanning documents for dissemination, book processing, and other clerical duties
b.      Providing customer service to library customers at Circulation Desk using the Research Library’s online circulation system (SirsiDynix)
c.       Sorting, processing, distributing incoming mail for Research Library staff
d.      Checking in/out library materials, placing holds, recalling, renewing materials
e.       Picking up, scanning, and reshelving library materials.
f.       Assisting customers to use equipment such as public access workstations, wireless laptops, scanners, microfilm, scanner, etc.
g.      Performing book processing tasks such as receipt and return of  books on approval, entering book record into catalog system
h.      Shifting books and journals.  
i.        Weeding project – de accession library materials that are no longer borrowed or used
j.        Conducting inventory of collection project– verify holdings against actual books on shelf and update records accordingly
k.      Other projects of a clerical nature that may be required such as data entry; some require standing, pushing lifting and physical labor not to exceed 15 lbs of lifting.
At least two-years experience providing library clerical and customer services such as: sorting, processing, distributing incoming mail; check-out and in of materials, place holds, renewals at circulation desk; pick-up, scan and reshelve library materials, locating materials for interlibrary loan and filling requests for document delivery, and maintaining and assisting customers with equipment such as public access workstations, wireless laptops, scanners, microfilm, scanner, self-checkout systems.


Curator -- 3-6 month positions

Tasks may include:
At least two years hands-on experience overseeing and providing overall care of a collection of items of great value or significance in a museum setting.  Experience with  the care of the collection items, including maintenance, repair, storage, movement and/or shipment of the items and organizing and designing display of the items to the general public or special interest audiences.

a.      Original and copy cataloging of newly acquired print and e-resources for entry into the Research Library’s online catalog (SirsiDynix/Unicorn) and OCLC’s WorldCat using AACR2, MARC, and RDA standards
b.      Cataloging and assigning metadata to images of museum objects, photographs, and other archival materials for the NIST Digital Archive (NDA) collections using Dublin Core, EAD, or other standard metadata schemes selected by the Information Services Office.
c.      Original and copy cataloging of serial publications in all formats for access through the Research Library’s online catalog (SirsiDynix/Unicorn) and  Serials Solutions Electronic Resources Management System (ERMS)
d.      Original cataloging of NIST/NBS Publications for entry into the Research Library’s online catalog, NIST Digital Archive, and WorldCat.  Creating and updating documentation for Information Services staff
e.      Entering/updating license information and other serials publication data into the Research Library’s ERMS.


In-depth Reference/Research Analysis Services -- 3-6 month positions
