The Indiana State Library has a vacancy for immediate placement for a Librarian 1, Supervisor of the Talking Books and Braille Library Division. This position coordinates and develops library services to the residents of Indiana who are blind, visually impaired or have a physical disability that prevents them from using regular printed materials. This position develops policy and procedures for implementing National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (NLS) goals, objectives and procedures into the Indiana State Library (ISL) and division policy. The supervisor of the Talking Book and Braille Library is a vital position for the Indiana State Library. The librarian serves in a national and state-wide leadership position that affects the outcome of service to Hoosiers who cannot read standard print due to visual impairment or physical handicap. The selected candidate will serve as consultant for Indiana subregional libraries; develop patron evaluations of the service, plan and implement publications, exhibits, outreach and other public education programs.
This position supervises potentially six employees within the division and oversees Talking Book services provided by three Indiana subregional libraries.
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Develop and implement library services for print impaired Indiana residents.
• Supervision and training of Division staff.
• Compile and write statistical and narrative reports.
• Prepare budgets involving state and federal funds and monitor use of state, federal and division gift funds.
• Maintain liaison with related groups and organizations concerning library service for people with print disabilities.
• Provide reference and referral services to patrons, staff, libraries, schools and general public.
Master of Library Science (MLS) degree from an accredited institution plus one (1) year full-time professional experience as a Librarian. Plus eligible to be certified by the Indiana library and Historical Board as a Librarian 3 or above.
