The incumbent serves as Supervisory Librarian having full authority and responsibility for developing, managing and administering a comprehensive Library program for the Washington DC VA Medical Center and its satellite outpatient clinics.

DUTIES:

The incumbent serves as Supervisory Librarian having full authority and responsibility for developing, managing and administering a comprehensive Library program for the Washington DC VA Medical Center and its satellite outpatient clinics.

The incumbent manages and directs an extensive library program and serves as an active team member within the multi-disciplinary management operation.

Evaluates library programs in terms of clientele requirements and needs, quality of performance, and develops and implements corrective measures and new procedures to improve and/or expand services.

Provides guidance and access to medical, allied health, nursing and consumer health information resources, both internal to the library and externally through online databases, internet and intranet resources, and cooperative arrangements.  Responds to reference questions or directs clients to resources that include books, journals, graphic images, videotapes, electronic database information, bibliographic citations or instructions as to how and where to find relevant information. 

Works with researchers in advanced fields of knowledge, using a wide variety of databases including full-text databases, research and technical reports, specialized journal articles and/or historical materials to interpret and evaluate information pertinent to the research project at hand.

Maintains professional contact with local libraries, along with libraries located throughout the country to facilitate interlibrary cooperation and exchange medical and allied health information.

Directs the interlibrary loan program, which includes the loaning and borrowing of monographs, journals, photocopies and audiovisuals.

The incumbent is responsible for the supervision of one Library Technician. 


QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

FOR THE GS-12

Incumbent must have at least 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level.

 FOR THE GS-13

Incumbent must have at least 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level.
