The tag library http://www.loc.gov/ead/tglib/elements/separatedmaterial.html seems pretty clear that <separatedmaterial> is only for material that has been /removed/ from the original collection. So for example if the exhibit catalogs are transferred to a different part of your institution, those would be considered separate material. If during processing materials are simply shifted from one series to another, that would not be considered separation.

If you're concerned people would be unable to locate the items, perhaps a "See" reference in the original location would suffice? For example:

<c02>
	<did>
		<unittitle>Clemens, Samuel</unittitle>
		<note><p> See <ref target="matw">Twain, Mark</ref>. </p></note>
	</did>
</c02>

...[lots more stuff here]...

<c02 id="matw">
	<did>
		<unittitle>Twain, Mark</unittitle>
		< container  type="Box">12</container>
	</did>
</c02>

Hi,

I am archiving an art historians archive in which her research papers on individual artists include exhibit catalogs as well as some posters and large fliers. The exhibit catalogs are going to be put into the Arts'
Library exhibit catalog section, if the library does not already have it. If the Arts' Library already has the exhibit catalog it will stay in the folder. There are also posters and large fliers that are going to be put into the" posters and large fliers" section in the art historians archives but move from the original artist folder and research series into a different series in the same collection. I am uncertain about using this tag (<separatedmaterial>) to note that the materials have been moved. Does anybody have any ideas on this?

Callie
