Regarding Proposal No. 2012-04: New data elements in the MARC 21 Authority Format for RDA Other Designation Associated with the Person and Title of the Person:

I think a good case can be made for including subfields to record the start and finish date for such a designation: e.;g. for a ruler (queen, king, count).  While perhaps a saint is always a saint, it could be useful to have the date of canonization recorded -- indeed, to record successive titles on the way to sainthood, and the dates when they apply, will help with problems of establishing which Venerable/Blessed/Saint Peter; likewise cases where a marquis becomes a duke, and so on.

Subfields f (start date) and g (end date) seem appropriate.
