And the technology of electroplating an original to make a metal copy
goes back to the 19C. A wood engraving that was to be used
for a large edition could be electroplated, and a metal printing plate
made, which would last longer. It is a form of stereotype (but stereos
made from type were not electroplated).

An example is the illustrations for "Alice in Wonderland".
