I'll try to answer your questions as best I can (I am just the
author/compiler/editor and not involved in the financial aspects at all).
(1) Instalment options: Any customer wishing to pay in instalments will
be able to do so. You would just have to send an email to Bear Family,
they'll take down your details, and contact you again when the box is
available.
(2) postage to US and Australia: This will be around 36.99 Euro per box,
and postage free within the European Union.
(3) agent in the US: I should guess that the box will be available in
the US through the normal channels, but at double the cost (around 790
Euros). The advantage of direct orders is that you avoid the book trade
wholesale and retail mark-ups. Paying the individual postage will still
save you considerable money. I can't say what the postage might be on
combined orders.
(4) Payment: Whoever orders now will be billed when the set is
available. It seems that some people eager not to miss the limited
edition have already paid - and the money was returned to them. The
scheduled delivery is mid-February, and a lot can happen in the
meantime. Bear Family wishes to avoid upset customers if there were a
delay beyond their control (the books are to be printed somewhere in China).
(5) Saving weight on Jewel cases. This is not an issue: all discs come
in paper sleeves.
(6) DVDs or CDs. The original intention was to include DVDs of all
available early films. This proved to be impossible, as some of the
rights owners demanded exorbitant fees. However, all films will be
described in the book, and publicity items and stills will be
reproduced. The few surviving early film synchronization discs will be
on the CDs.
(7) What are the "vote stars" for? Don't ask me. I guess this is
intended to follow the facebook procedures of "like it".
Anything else? Oh yes, there will now be TWO big books rather than one
as previously announced.
