Hi Nathan,

ICA-AtoM (open-source web-based archival description software) is a good example of how a relational database can effectively export and import EAC records along with their relationships to other authority records and to archival descriptions. The ICA-AtoM interface allows for creation and editing of authority records (based on the ISAAR-CPF standard) including the creation of relationships with other authority records and archival description in the database - and export & import of EAC-CPF XML documents.

An example of our implementation is discussed in a 2011 document about Encoded Archival Context created by Archives & Records Association, UK & Ireland here: http://www.archives.org.uk/community/sections/interest-groups/data-standards-group/presentations-from-ead-refresher-and-introduction-to-eac-course-15-november-2011.html.

You are invited to try our online demo of ICA-AtoM 1.3. Due to security reasons we cannot permit Import of XML, but you do have the ability to create authority records with relationships and then Export a EAC-CPF XML document. That will enable you to review the XML and see how the relationships are built.

We have ICA-AtoM 1.4 release scheduled for Spring 2013. A few known bugs with EAC and EAD roundtripping will be resolved for this release. To support this work we have been creating EAC and EAD crosswalks, these will be released on our wiki Spring 2013.

Regards,
Jessica
