Library of Congress Packard Campus for Audio-Visual Conservation, Culpeper, Virginia

(Bus departs from the C Street entrance of the of the Madison building, across from the Capitol South Metro at 7:30 a.m. for transport to the Packard Campus. After the tour, the bus will leave the Packard Campus at 1:00 p.m. and return to the Madison Building at 3:00 p.m.)

 

Set on a beautiful 45 acre campus with stunning architectural design and landscaping, the Packard Campus of the National Audio-Visual Conservation Center is a state-of-the-art facility where the Library of Congress acquires, preserves and provides access to the world’s largest and most comprehensive collection of films, television programs, radio broadcasts, and sound recordings. The campus has globally unprecedented capabilities and capacities for the preservation reformatting of all audiovisual media formats (including obsolete formats dating back 100 years) and their long-term safekeeping in a petabyte-level digital storage archive. In addition, the Packard Campus also provides similar preservation services for other archives and libraries in both the public and private sector.

 

The Great Escapes tour of the Packard Campus for Audio-Visual Conservation will include a complete tour of the new facility and transportation to and from the facility from the Library of Congress on Capitol Hill.

Tour:  10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

A bus will pick up attendees from the C Street entrance of the of the Madison building, across from the Capitol South Metro at 7:30 a.m. for transport to the Packard Campus. After the tour, the bus will leave the Packard Campus at 1:00 p.m. and return to the Madison Building at 3:00 p.m.

Metro and Directions
