Please Join Us for a Meeting on
Implementing ORCID in Federal Government
The Open Researcher and Contributor ID<http://orcid.org/> (ORCID) is a unique digital identifier that associates researchers with their works accurately and unambiguously. Implementing ORCID can help organizations to connect funding with the outputs that resulted, identify experts, and benchmark research strengths and impact.
The Center for Devices & Radiological Health (CDRH) at the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) is piloting a researcher networking and expertise mining tool called Profiles<http://profiles.catalyst.harvard.edu/> Research Networking Software (RNS) and plans to integrate ORCID. The FDA Profiles Team is beginning a roadmap for ORCID implementation and would benefit from broadening the discussion to the federal community in hopes of exploring opportunities for harmonization. There are issues related to intellectual property, information security and information technology infrastructure that may be unique to federal integrators within the ORCID user community.
The FDA Profiles Team is therefore convening a meeting for early adopters and interested stakeholders to discuss how ORCID implementation efforts can be synchronized and supported across Federal government. The workshop will consist of speaker presentations followed by an interactive group discussion. The speaker list is still being solidified but will include: Dr. Hollie Gilman, Policy Advisor for Open Government and Innovation, Office of Science & Technology Policy, Executive Office of the President; Dr. Laurel Haak, Executive Director, ORCID; Blane Dessey, Executive Director, FEDLINK, implementers from Boston University, and more. A finalized agenda and visitor information will be distributed to program registrants.
