Wednesday July 24, 2013 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. The Library of Congress Preservation Directorate, the FEDLINK Preservation Working Group, and the Federal Library Safety Net, a voluntary federal library network for disaster response, are collaborating to present a hands-on disaster planning and response workshop. This workshop will introduce federal library staff to the topics of risk assessment, emergency preparedness, and disaster response through discussion, case studies, and hands-on exercise. During the morning, Library of Congress Preservation Directorate Staff will present best practices for planning and damage mitigation. The program will focus on the damaging effects of water on the various types of collections materials (both print and non-print) found in most libraries and archives, as well as the recommended types of supplies most useful during a disaster. In the afternoon, attendees will participate in a guided hands-on water salvage session.
