Stanford University Libraries

E-Resources Metadata Librarian - 10077871

This position has primary responsibility for loading vendor-supplied records for electronic resources into the library’s SirsiDynix Symphony system. The incumbent will manage all aspects of this workflow, including detailed data analysis of record packages and documenting findings and solutions, data massaging through automated processes to ensure that incoming records conform to local and national standards, and the tracking of updates to ensure that new e-resources are accessible through the library’s discovery system with minimal delay. Roughly 25% time will be devoted to the role of “discovery analyst” in support of Searchworks, the library’s discovery system.

This position is in the Metadata Department of the Library, and reports to the Head of Data & E-resources Control.

  1. Provide data analysis in support of the loading of vendor-supplied records for e-resources through the locally developed “e-loader” application.
  2. Correct errors and improve quality of incoming records through batch-editing, scripting, and other automated means.
  3. Schedule and monitor record loads and resolve any attendant problems.
  4. Develop mechanisms for tracking and loading update files for ongoing e-resource packages.
  5. Serve as liaison to other departments/units on issues related to the e-loading workflow, and the maintenance and development of the e-loader.
  6. As “discovery analyst”, field user’s questions/feedback from SearchWorks, investigate problems reported, identify source of problem, and suggest solution to the development team. Test bug fixes and system enhancements before they are released. Document specifications for system features and provide “how things work” type documentation.
  7. Provide data analysis and technical support for other Metadata Department’s initiatives and projects (e.g. evaluate new sources for metadata enhancement, convert MARC records to other metadata formats such as RDF).

We are not able to provide relocation or sponsorship for this position. Stanford University is an affirmative action, equal opportunity employer. Thank you for your interest!
