I agree with your inclination not to include "the complete wreck" in the authority record. "A series of unfortunate events" is a brilliant title, and is well established in users' minds. I don't think that the addition of "the complete wreck" would help to find or identify the series.

I hope nobody is thinking of changing the authorized access point of this series to

Snicket, Lemony. Novels. Selections (Series of unfortunate events).

And no2012138359 could be

Snicket, Lemony. Novels. Selections. (All the wrong questions).

Subject: [PCCLIST] Lemony Snicket's A series of unfortunate events

An appeal to the collective wisdom for counsel!

I cataloged a boxed set of Lemony Snicket's A series of unfortunate events, issued by the same publisher as the original (HarperCollins) in 2006. On the slipcase appears the phrase "The complete wreck," which I take to be a pun on the phrase "The complete work(s)." Nevertheless, I gave this as an additional title in the 246 of the bib record, assuming people might think to look for it that way. My question is, should this also be added to the authority record for the series title?

On the one hand, since it is more of a phrase than a true title, and since it is found only on some manifestations, I am inclined not to add it, and so far have not done so.

On the other hand, frequently alternate titles on authority records are not found on all manifestations. Also, I am inclined to think that all information that could relate to the work/expression should appear on the authority record. Or should a new authority record for the expression be created? Is that necessary if the information is on the bib record for the manifestation?

What do all of you think? The bib record for the set is (OCoLC)85827027.

All advice is much appreciated.
