FEDLINK Orientation to Federal Libraries and Information Centers Series:
The National Library of Education

The National Library of Education is the federal government's center of expertise for education information. Created in 1867 and named a national library in 1994, the library includes a historical and contemporary collection to support the research and policy work of Department of Education. A part of the Department's Institute of Education Sciences, the library focuses on evidence-based research in education. Library staff also participates in supporting the ERIC (Education Resources Information Center) database.

The tour will look at the history and current services of the National Library of Education, a recent major refocusing of the collection, and development of a new strategic and business plan for FY 2014. There will also be a discussion on the latest developments in ERIC, including the impact of changes in open access to federally funded research.

Located in the Lyndon Baines Johnson Department of Education Main Building, the library is easily accessible from Metro's L'Enfant Plaza stop (Maryland & 7th St. exit) on the Blue, Orange, Green & Yellow lines. Please use the entrance on Maryland Avenue and be prepared to show a picture ID and pass through a security screening. Library staff will escort participants from the entrance to the library.
