NLS Operations Alert

No. 14-16

DATE          :     February 19, 2014

TO                :     Network Libraries

FROM         :     Greg Hill, Acting Equipment Control Officer

SUBJECT   :     DTBM Labels

Machine-lending agencies (MLAs) may now reorder chrome identification labels for digital talking-book machines (DTBMs). The labels may be customized with up to six lines of the agency’s contact information. They are 2" x 3" and have adhesive backings that allow them to be affixed to the bottom of DTBMs. Orders must be placed online at www.loc.gov/nls/dtbmlabelform.html by March 3, 2014.

Please observe the following instructions:

·         In areas where no sublending agencies (SLAs) exist, provide both the MLA’s address and telephone number. A second telephone number or e-mail address may also be provided.

Example:

Property of U.S. Government
To return, contact:
Kansas Talking Book Service
ESU Memorial Union
1200 Commercial, Box 4055
Emporia, KS 66801-5087
1-800-362-0699
[log in to unmask]

·         In states where SLAs exist, note only the MLA’s name and telephone number. A second telephone number or e-mail address may also be provided. Omit the MLA’s mailing address. (Machines move among SLAs so frequently that it is more efficient to provide a single point of contact for all machines.)

The attached PDF provides samples of the label format. Samples are also available in Microsoft Word format via the above-mentioned website. MLAs should use these samples to ensure that their information will fit on the label.

NLS plans to ship labels to participating libraries later in the year. MLAs whose addresses or telephone numbers change within the distribution period may obtain replacement labels, if they choose, directly from the manufacturer and at their own expense.
