Well, we slayed *extended* XLink for EAD3, but *simple* XLink remains undead in that all its attributes (href, role, arcrole, title, show and actuate) are still there, it's just that they have been freed from the XLink namespace; namespaces being the real demons to be exorcised.

My sense is that in EAD3 Terry Catapano, Mike Rush and others have captured the best of it isomorphically (love the new terms one learns with standards) while stripping out the unused, overlapping and ill-defined concepts.
